Grey Water Management - Part Two

In the end, Outbound decided that the macerator pump that they had selected was not adequate for the job and they installed a Gusher Gulper pump that could lift the water. Unfortunately, they felt that I still needed to pay them for the macerator pump that they had installed. Once we finished that negotiation and I had made it clear that it was their macerator pump -- not mine, we agreed on a price. So in the end, Outbound charged me an exorbitant amount of money (I'm embarresed to disclose that number) to install about 8 feet of waste hose and a pump, reinstall a Y valve and rerun 4 additional feet of waste hose to the grey water through hull.

My advice is that if you are using Outbound, get a written quote and work from there. Do not authorize additional work without a written quote and monitor the charges as the work progresses.

Once the grey water system was back together, I ran the sink and shower grey water hoses from the forward head back to the grey water tank. At this point, all is working.

Outbound Yacht Service - Outbound

So it turns out that Outbound has not fixed the grey water problem and they want to keep charging for the non-fix. I may ask if they are a registered charity. Had to argue with them yesterday about not paying for the pump that was inadequate for the job and the new pump both. After about 15 minutes of discussion, a new invoice arrived crediting for pump 1. At this point, I have $2000 invested in installing about 20 feet of hose, a pump and about 25 feet of wire for a non-operational system.

Went to the boat yesterday and used the sink creating grey water. Turned on the "new" pump with no results. Ran and ran and ran. Will investigate more today then may have to throw a fit after that.

Grey Water Management

It appears that Outbound Yacht Service has finally fixed the grey water problem. The macerator pump that was installed was only capable of self priming to 5-feet. Since we were probably close to a five foot head differential between the tank bottom and the pump, the pipe loss probably caused us to not be priming the macerator. Replaced the macerator with a waste pump. Tried it out on Friday and all seems well. Will continue to monitor the progress.
